Divine Intervention

Alternate title: I don't think God wants me to get scabies

We pulled up to our hotel tonight and for the first time ever I said to C, "Tell them your wife's a freak and ask if you can look at the room first." Even at 11:30 with over-tired babies, it looked bad. Then they informed C that because we had not arrived on time, they gave our room away.
So faced with possibly having to continue for several hours or camp at my brother's unfinished house, we left. C kept calling hotels but they were all booked. And then we saw a chain hotel in the distance. When I got into the lobby they had one single, solitary, wonderfully clean room left for almost the same rate as the Bates Motel. And this place has waffles.

Winning!

A few weeks ago I won a giveaway on Facebook. It was especially awesome because the prize was these super cute, handmade burpies from Laudy Daudy. I got them in the mail today and they're do stinking cute! I love that they aren't "baby" fabrics. And Avery loved them too. She's already drooled all over the purple ones. My guess is that we're going to need a few more.

Seven

Seven years ago I met this boy, and my life changed forever. He has been such a blessing, and he's turning into the most amazing person. He is sweet and funny and logical and kind. He gave up his birthday date with just his dad and me because he didn't want anyone to be left out. He's freakishly smart and mature, but still loves to cuddle. He's the best of us, and one of the best things that's ever happened to us

Grouch

Y'all, I don't know what the deal is, but I've developed my own awesome witching hour where I'm just a lovely ball of bitchtasticness. Five thirty hits and all the sudden I'm sitting on the couch glaring at everyone, teeth clenched, with a low growl deep within me. WTF? I can't function like this. I thought I was just devastatingly tired, but I slept okay last night and still, here I am. Maybe hormones? I'm guessing it's at least part sleep, since I've been waking up earlier and earlier lately ( at this point, to get eight hours I'd have to go to bed at seven). Or maybe I'm just bitchy? Maybe I need more alcohol in my life?

Phone dump

We've been really busy, but it's all the day-to-day, only interesting to us stuff. C and I are starting to have to coordinate schedules, now that the kids are all into stuff and not staring slack jawed at the tv all day. Eli's testing for his yellow belt this week and then this weekend he turns seven (!!!). Syd just started big girl gymnastics. Avery is amazing and beautiful and such a little observer. Also, SUCH a drooler! C is starting a dads group in town ( and I am working very hard not to over-involve myself). I just took on a short-term supervisor position and also got accepted as an adjunct faculty. And we're taking the kids for their first Disneyland trip soon. So lots of stuff, but nothing really fleshed out yet. But we're good. Busy, but good busy.

Top shelf

I've pared our home library WAY down, but these remain my top shelf, keep forever, changed my life favorites.

Little House: OMG. I've probably read these a hundred times. I retread them as an adult and really struggled with my feelings about Pa. If you haven't read these lately you should.

Sybil: I bought this in a used bookstore in Boulder when I was 14 and it's singularly responsible for my choosing to focus on psychology.

The Red Tent: an awesome girl power story. It also reignited my interest in the Bible. So, so good.

The Woodswoman: Also an awesome girl power book that came to me just as I was getting a little too citified.

The Man Who Mistook His Wife For a Hat: If Sybil brought me to psychology, this book kept me there.

To Kill a Mockingbird: Obviously

I love hearing about what books people love. What's on your top shelf?

Hot

It's supposed to be 107 today. We ate breakfast at the splash park so I feel I've done my part. I expect we'll spend the rest of the day watching tv in front of the AC.

Chillin'

We went to a friend's yesterday and Avery did not appreciate the novelty. Except for this. She chilled on the air hockey table for a blessedly long time. MOTY.
